Comparison of free and bound phenolic compositions and antioxidant activities of leaves from different mulberry varieties

Abstract Mulberry leaves are used in traditional Chinese medicine and contain numerous active substances that known to be beneficial for human health. The aim of this study was investigate the phenolic compositions antioxidant activities from 23 mulberry cultivars. Qualitative LC-ESI-QTOF analysis revealed presence 11 compounds free extracts 10 bound fractions. Chlorogenic acid caffeic were major components fractions, respectively. results changguosang cultivar Taiwan contained greatest content as well highest activity among cultivars examined, determined using three separate assays. isoquercitrin, chlorogenic acid, rutin contents displayed significant correlations with activities, while syringic main contributors obtained demonstrate a variety may suitable further development herbal medicine.
